Jamila Hassoune is a community organizer, social networking entrepreneur, cultural and professional development advisor from Morocco. From 1993 to 2011, she managed a family bookstore where she created a forum for cultural debates and discussions among local patrons. In 1995, realizing that books had to be taken of their shelves and brought directly to potential readers in the more isolated regions of Morocco, she created a rural school project called The Book Caravan (la Caravane du livre)--a travelling cultural space for youth in oases and small villages in High Atlas mountains, giving underserved young people the opportunity to express themselves through reading, theatre and writing workshops. Jamila Hassoune's many years of educational and cultural expertise has allowed her to start a citizen youth project. All of her work is targeted to building a strong civil society of not only responsible, but also educated and informed citizens.
